Film Review of Southern Pride at BFI Flare

Southern Pride is a follow up documentary to Small Town Gay Bar in 2006 by Malcolm Ingram.

Pride in London is called to account by the Community Advisory Board

The Community Advisory Board today released its post-event report on Pride in London. I have a mixture of emotions about it. I’m happy to see the experiences and feelings of many of the community expressed in writing, and it certainly completely confirms the experiences of all those who contacted me in frustration/upset/discontent in the run up to Pride; however I’m also sad. I love London, and I love Pride – but I love a Pride that is as diverse and inclusive as the LGBT community with which I feel a part of and this year I have never felt so distant from Pride.

Being Bi at Pride

It’s not always safe under that purple flag

Last month marked the 12th anniversary of the death of Brenda Howard, also known as “The Mother of Pride”. She was called this thanks to her role in coordinating the 1970 Christopher Street Liberation Rally, marking the year anniversary of the Stonewall riots. Yep, you got it – the first ever Pride march. Brenda was, incidentally, bisexual.

Find out more about the Pride in London Official Women's Party

This year Pride in London are using their volunteers to host the official Pride in London women's party rather than collaborating with an existing promoter as they have in the past.

We chatted to the lead volunteer to find out more about what we can expect from the night...

Meet the DJs supporting the Pride in London Women's Party

The Pride in London Official Women's Party offers a selection of DJs fairly unknown on the main lesbian circuit in London. Along with the stunning venue, there is an opportunity to experience something different from your standard LBQ night out in London.

We find out a bit more about what you can expect from the DJs on the night...

Croydon PrideFest Launches with a bang

Croydon PrideFest, London’s second biggest pride, will kick off at 1.30pm with a parade through the town centre to Surrey Street, where the main festival will take place with a stage hosting live music and other acts throughout the day.

Stockholm Pride - A Beautiful Celebration of Diversity

There is a famous story of Swedes “calling in gay” to work in the 1970s, as a protest against homosexuality’s classification as an illness.  While this tale has been sensationalised over the years, it stuck out in my mind during my visit to Stockholm.

Launching in 2016 - a Pride for everyone all over the world

Everything a Pride should be for everyone in the world.
The LGBTI Pride movement is going fully online for the first time with a new global event – Digital Pride.
Created by Gay Star News, the Digital Pride festival will start on 25 April 2016 with the main Pride day on 30 April 2016.

Winter Pride gets a cool response

I had a great time at London Winter Pride. From the moment I got in and took funky pictures blowing bubbles against graffiti painted on the spot, (see proof below) to slow grinding to the rhythms of R&She (yes, I like to drop it like it's hot), or moving to the beat of Michelle Manetti – it was a good night.

Proud to support National Student Pride 2016

A history lesson with Pride: never forget our past

It's Summer 1984, Margaret Thatcher is in power, and the National Union of Mineworkers are on strike! At the Gay Pride March in London, a group of gay and lesbian activists decides to raise money to support the families of the striking miners. But the only problem is the Union seems too embarrassed to receive their support.
Not discouraged, the activists ignore the Union and go direct to the miners. They identify a small mining village in Wales to make their donations to the community in person. This journey begins a surprising partnership between two seemingly alien communities as they fight for the same cause.

My First Manchester Pride – Sunshine and Fun Times

After 8 years of revelling at prides around the country, I somehow have never made it to Manchester Pride until this year.

Wanted - 5,200 LBQ women - for one night only!

Pride in London is almost here. A week of fringe events followed by the weekend of partying. Here we list all of the events that are on offer that have a focus towards LBQ women... we really are spoilt for choice this year!! On Saturday alone, the total capacity at events where it is run by or for women is a whopping 5,200.

3 lesbians and a picnic blanket

This year, Herts launched its first Pride event. In Cassiobury Park in Watford, the whole county came together for one of the best Pride events I have been to in a long time. The atmosphere was like a county fair, a gay county fair.
