... a rural holiday destination set amidst spectacular scenery, offering 7 quality self-catering studios sharing extensive terraces and a stunning pool
We have known about Bambu resort in Southern Spain for a couple of years now, but never quite found the time to get there. This year we were delighted to find out there were two lesbian festivals (L Fest Del Mar and OlaGirls) taking place a week apart in the vicinity - and the timing was perfect. It meant that we had to hire a car to travel between them, which seemed like the perfect excuse to drive a little further down the road to this lovely little boutique lesbian-owned private secluded studio apartments. We already had the flights so why not bolt it on - it is a tough job but someone has to do it!
We visited Bambu at the beginning of June for a 5 day break.
We received the instructions on how to find Bambu, and plugged in the details to our Sat Nav and set off from Calpe near Alicante. A very straight-forward drive and some lovely views along the way. Bambu is located just North-East of Malaga in Andalucia, and is about a 15-20 minute drive from the beach town of Torre Del Mar.
Bambu is certainly secluded; we couldn't work out why we were advised to arrive during the day, until we turned off the main road and drove down to the very definition of 'off the beaten track'. There were no lights. We had arrived at dusk - and it was certainly a challenge. One particular point is a very steep incline, with a right turn at the top - the thing is you can't see there is a right turn... so we had to roll down the hill and start again as we stalled part way up! Something Katie found quite funny.
We arrived at Bambu finding some absolutely stunning views and really feeling like we were away from the City chaos which was perfect for our planned relaxation. We had booked in for a week and couldn't wait. The owner, Catherine greeted us with a warm welcome and showed us to our poolside apartment.
The owners don't live on site so it really is a quiet space. There is wifi available but it is limited to mobile and tablet devices. Perfect for staying connected, but still switching off. The pool is gorgeous and it isn't difficult to feel at one with nature.
There are two on-site cats who just wander around and sunbath. If you aren't a cat lover they will just go about their business, but if you do like the relaxation of stroking your pussy (sorry I couldn't help myself!) then they are very friendly.
With a poolside honesty bar, and the option of an arrival hamper of foods and the glorious Spanish sun, Bambu is definitely a break we would recommend. There are a number of board games to choose from, a selection of CDs and plenty of loungers and umbrellas around the stunning pool.
As well as staying on site and just sunbathing (and shadebathing as it was just so hot!) we visited the nearby seaside town of Torre Del Mar. In the Summer months there is also a waterpark with giant water slides - although it opens mid-June so we just missed being able to experience it. We did enjoy some lovely dinners and afternoons on the beach.
What was particularly nice, was although it was secluded, there were other women on site. There are 7 apartments in total so you do get some company.
Bambú is open between May and November and is a gorgeous converted farmhouse. In addition to standard bookings, they also offer a number of specialist holidays with themes such as solo women, photography, walking and even a writing retreat. They also offer out of season long lets in the winter months of November to March if you really want to get out of the City.
It is ideal for a weekend away, a group booking for friends; and even for a honeymoon - the Maroma room has its own secluded private terrace.
