On Saturday 23 September 2017, the My Future Family Show (previously known as the Alternative Parenting Show) returns to London.
The show is run by SPM Group and focusses on alternative routes to family including: fertility options for older and single women • Surrogacy • Fostering & Adoption • LGBT parenting • Co-parenting by choice
The show is in its 9th year, and prides itself on being a more intimate, welcoming and friendly show than most large exhibitions. The choice of venue, exhibitors and content is all brought together to make this event like no other.
The show organiser, Sarah Garrett MBE explains why this event is important:
“I went through my own journey to have a family with my then-wife Linda Riley (now owner of Diva Magazine), and we struggled to find information and providers who understood our family. After finally finding The London Women’s Clinic and starting our journey we were inspired to create an event that brought together suppliers and providers who understand and care about diversity and cater to various types of prospective parents. Whilst Linda no longer works on the show since we split the business, we both still have a strong focus on family due to our own children.
I continue to run this show because I understand how confusing it can be. Initial consultations can be expensive, and to then find out the clinic doesn’t understand you as a couple can be extremely disheartening. I’m delighted to be able to continue to offer this show for free, thanks to our event partners The London Women’s Clinic, Dawson Cornwell and First4Adoption. This is our 9th year and we are still as excited as ever to see all the potential parents realising that they can have their family and people do understand their individual needs.”
So what can you expect at this year’s event?
The 2017 My Future Family Show takes place on Saturday 23 September 2017 and promises to be an informative, friendly and intimate space where people wishing to become parents can engage with exhibitors in a safe, friendly and relaxing environment. Building on the success of last year’s event we will be looking to continue to bring a good range of exhibitors to match the diversity of our visitors. As with previous years, the show will include informative seminars, networking, 1-2-1 confidential advice.
26 exhibitors across a range of topics covering lgbt parents, fostering & adoption, surrogacy, as well as fertility over 40 and for single women. The exhibitors are quite diverse and there is a good mixture of all areas providing something for everyone.
There are a number of seminars taking place where you can hear from experts, and also from people who have already started, or completed their journey.
We think the favourite of ours is the London Women’s Clinic offering their famous InSeminar talk – although it will be interesting to hear about shared motherhood too.
Pop up talks offer quick tips and hints – with our particular favourite being the talk on whether to go for NHS or private.
An interesting area which seems to be a fairly new, but growing concept is co-parenting (where 2 – or more – people parent a child together, sometimes with no romantic connection to each other, i.e. friends sharing responsibility over a child). If you don’t know what this is but are intrigued, Conscious Co-parenting and single parents networking group and Pride Angel are both on hand to explain in much more detail, and will be offering networking too for people looking to find someone to co-parent with.
What sets this show apart from its competitors is definitely the free entry. By using sponsors they are able to do away with a ticket fee. When you have a potentially lengthy and/or expensive journey ahead this is a really great benefit.
So if you are thinking about a family, but need a little help in choosing a method, or finding a clinic or provider who understand your needs; we recommend popping along to the My Future Family Show on Saturday 23 September. They have free entry available, or you can upgrade to a fast track or VIP ticket.
